🌲THE LIGHTS OF SYLAMORE

“They don’t stay in one place… and they don’t always move like anything you can track.”

📍 LOCATION

Sylamore Ranger District, Ozark–St. Francis National Forest, Arkansas

🧾 THE STORY

Deep in the Sylamore Ranger District, there are stretches of forest where the roads thin out, the ridges tighten, and the trees seem to swallow light before it reaches the ground. Hunters, campers, and backroad travelers have reported something strange out there. Lights. Not headlights. Not campfires. Small, shifting points of light that appear between the trees… sometimes stationary, sometimes drifting just out of reach. Some describe them as faint and distant. Others say they were close enough to illuminate branches and ground cover for a moment—before disappearing completely. No sound. No clear source. Just light… where there shouldn’t be any.

🧙‍♂️ FIELD NOTE

I’ve worked in forests like this… and there are moments when the woods feel deeper than they should. Light doesn’t carry the way you expect. Distance plays tricks. But sometimes… it doesn’t feel like a trick.
